A little pin can be just the thing – use it to fasten your scarf or shawl, to pin the brim of your hat in place, to secure your tie or to just add a little sparkle to your outfit. This antique stick pin was originally intended to affix a gentleman’s cravat (the old timey version of a tie) and was made for someone whose last name began with a W. The tiny gold hallmarks look very much like the Finnish date letters for 1906, but without other hallmarks to confirm its origin that’s just a clever guess. Manufacture Modelled in 14ct gold throughout, the gold fineness has been verified by XRF test. There are two tiny stamps that appear to read A.5 in a rectangular cartouche with clipped corners – one on the back of the W and the other on the pin. The stamp is an excellent match for the Finnish date letter mark for 1906, but in the absence of other Finnish marks this cannot be confirmed. The style of the pin is in keeping with the styles popular in Europe at the turn of the century. The head of the pin is in the shape of the letter W, embellished with rose cut diamonds and a fleur de lis. The W measures 13.68mm x 12.62mm x 1.5mm. The pin is 74mm long from the top of the W to the bottom of the pin Weighs 2.34 grams. The W could be converted into a charm or a ring at an additional cost.
