$76.69
A large antique Australian made “puffy heart” pendant set with a rose cut diamond and two seed pearls and additional raised flourishes above and below the gemstones. Circa 1890 when the whole world was in love with Princess Alix (later Queen Alexandra, wife of Edward VII), her romantic style saw society adorned in hearts and stars. This big juicy heart has a matte yellow gold bloomed finish, and little hallmarks on the reverse for Robert Rollason & Co, manufacturing jewellers of renown who traded in Sydney between 1888 – 1925. Manufacture Modelled in 9ct gold with a bloomed finish, there are stamps on the reverse for 9ct gold and a makers mark of two R’s back to back – easily identifiable as the makers mark of Robert Rollason & Co, who traded in Sydney between 1888 – 1925. The heart is set with three gemstones placed diagonally. At the centre is a bright rose cut diamond with a diameter of approximately 3mm, flanked on either side by a natural ocean pearl of approx. 2mm in diameter. Each gem is grain set into a square shaped setting placed within a curving ribbon-like motif. Above and below are rasied scrolling flourishes. The reverse is plain save for the fineness and makers marks. The heart measures 21.2mm (not including the loop and bail) x 20.15mm x 7.86mm. Weighs 2.29 grams. Condition Very good antique condition. The gems all appear to be original to the piece. The bail is a later addition, it originally would have had a simple jump ring in place of the current bail. There is the slightest of dimples on the reverse, but you’ll need sharp eyes to see it and of course it is invisible when worn. Ready for immediate wear. **please note the chain pictured is for styling purposes only.
