Blooming Romance : Antique Ruby and Old European Cut Diamond ‘Daisy’ Cluster Ring in Platinum

A raspberry red old cut ruby nestles amongst six plump old European cut diamonds in a platinum setting. The combination of ruby and diamonds is an age old code for true love: ruby (passionate love) diamonds (forever) = you & me always. This sweet blossom was made in the first half of the 20th Century, circa 1920. As she has already spent one love-filled lifetime being adored, I treated her to the full rejuvenation experience: she has new platinum claws and a renewed rub-over setting around the perimeter. Now ready for another 100 years of sparkly joy. This ring comes with a recent retail replacement valuation for $4025 Australian dollars. Manufacture:  Handmade in platinum throughout, there is a well worn PLAT hallmark on the inside of the band. The metal content has been verified by XRF test. The gemstones have been verified as natural, untreated ruby and diamonds by an independent gemologist. The fine pinkish mid-red Burmese ruby shows no signs of heat treatment. It measures approximately 4.45mm x 3mm x 2mm (0.28 carat). It is held by a four pronged setting elevated above the diamond halo. The six old European cut diamonds have a diameter of approximately 3mm each, with an estimated combined total weight of 0.51 carat. They have been assessed whilst set as G-H through J-K in colour, VS2 – P1 clarity. They are bead and semi rubbed in to the scalloped edge platinum setting. The face of the ring measures 10.61mm x 9.62mm. Pinched upswept shoulders lead to a slim half-round band measuring 1.54mm wide and 1mm thick. Sits 5mm high on the finger. Weighs 2.23 grams. Condition:  Fully restored platinum setting. The ruby shows some gentle facet wear and some small fleabites, only visible under magnification and commensurate with age. One of the diamonds has a small surface reaching inclusion, again only visible under magnification. Overall excellent antique condition, ready for immediate and everyday wear (with care).
