Floriography was the “secret language of flowers” employed by the Victorians to bestow hidden meanings to flowers and foliage. Tenacious evergreen ivy was said to represent fidelity and constance as well as enduring love – both romantic and familial love. One face of this antique silver bangle is completely covered with hand engraved ivy leaves. For the late Victorians this bangle was both the height of fashion and a sentimental gift, reminding the recipient they were deeply cared for. Manufacture: Handmade in solid Sterling silver, hallmarked “Sterling Silver” to the inside of the integrated clasp. The bangle is hinged on one side and oval in shape to prevent spinning on the wrist. It closes with an integrated box clasp. The outer surface of the bangle is flat. One half of the bangle is covered in fine hand engraving of three pointed leaves resembling ivy. The other side is plain and smooth. You can choose to wear either side face up. The bangle is a small size with an inner circumference of 16cm. Recommended for wrists of 15.5cm and under. Measures 13.86mm wide. Weighs 14.46 grams. Condition: In good antique condition. Some bumps and dings to the surface, of cosmetic note only. The safety chain is missing – this is an optional and easy fix.
