Round She Goes Again: Vintage Golf Bangle in 9ct Gold circa 1980

Sold Features of the classic “golf” bangle are for it to be formed in a perfect circle and made of tubular construction, this vintage love is both those things. Constructed in thick wall 9ct gold, there’s narry a ding despite all her years of service. If you bump her against a hard surface in just the right way she rings like a bell. The origin of the term “golf bangle” is somewhat of a mystery. I imagine these clasp-less bangles suited golf players with their streamlined form and lighter weight on the wrist. The lack of embellishments means there nothing to catch or snag on clothing during a swing. The last thing any golfer wants is an additional handicap from their finery – with these bangles one can look chic without the weight or worry that comes from other kinds of bangles and bracelets. That’s my best guess, anyway. Manufacture:  Tubular thick wall construction in 9ct gold, hallmarked 375 to the inside of the bangle and verified by XRF test. It is completely round with no clasp or hinge – designed to slip over the hand. The bangle is 4.6mm thick. Weighs 9.56 grams. Size:  The inner diameter is 63mm / 2.48″. The inner circumference is 19.8cm / 7.8″. As this bangle slips over the hand it is important to make sure it will fit as it is not easily resized. If you don’t know your hand circumference the best way to find out is to measure a bangle you already have, or to measure your hand with a flexible tape measure. To measure the hand, position it as though putting on a bangle (tuck your thumb into the palm of your hand) Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your hand. This is your exact hand circumference/size. If you measure 19.8cm or smaller then this bangle will fit. Personal preference will also come into play here, depending whether you want a closer fit or a loose fit when your bangle is on your wrist. Generally it should be a little tight to get your bangle over your knuckles so it is not too large on your wrist. Condition:  Excellent vintage condition. Free from dings, dents or scratches. Ready for immediate wear.
