Cannetille jewellery was at its zenith in Europe between 1820 – 1830. The style was inspired by folk embroidery, and as it does not use a great deal of gold it was a sensible technique to use during the “gold poverty” that followed the Napoleonic wars of the early 1800s. These floral drop earrings with their long deep orange carnelian drops have divine movement and exude elegance and grace. When I found these they had been clumsily converted into screw-backs – originally the ear wire would have been fixed to the top flower. I have had new hooks handmade in 14ct gold that keep the earrings perfectly balanced in your lobes. Manufacture: Handmade in 14ct gold, there are no hallmarks present as was quite normal for jewellery of this period. The gold fineness has been verified by XRF test. Likely made in continental Europe. The earrings have a drop of 52.23mm Weighs 7.82 grams (pair). Condition: Excellent antique condition. No faults to note. Ready for immediate wear.
