A striking Victorian Era Sterling silver book chain necklace, circa 1880. It never ceases to amaze me how contemporary these Victorian silver collars look, and how delicious they feel to wear – the silver links mould to your contours. This collar length chain features engraved ivy motifs on cylinder shaped links, interleaved with smooth short links and a very clever use of negative space. Ball terminals punctuate the perimeter of the chain. Flip it over to the other side and the smooth links make for a striking and sleek statement necklace. Chic, edgy and very wow. Manufacture: Handmade in silver, there are no hallmarks present but the metal content has been verified as silver by XRF test. Engraved with an ivy leaf motif on one side, smooth on the other. This reversible collar necklace can be worn with either side facing out. The chain is 47.5cm (18 3/4“) long. It is 17.85mm wide and weighs 44.7 grams. Necklaces like this usually close with an oversized bolt ring, but this one fastens with a hook. Condition: In excellent antique condition. No faults to note. Ready for immediate wear.
