Bring on the luck and banish the bad vibes with this striking early Australian double locket by Thompson and Graham of Melbourne, who traded from 1914 – 1919. The overall shape of locket is that of a shield for protection, embellished with a lucky horseshoe that is studded with seed pearls and garnet topped doublets imitating rubies. There’s room inside for two small photographs. Thompson and Graham were a partnership and members of the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria, with a premises on Bourke Street in Melbourne. Their makers mark was a balance, it was used in conjunction with the M.J.A. of Victoria stamps – in this case a 9 for 9ct gold and a wheat sheaf. Manufacture: Modeled in 9ct gold with a bloomed finish, this locket is stamped with the Manufacturing Jewellers Association of Victoria marks and ‘balance’ makers mark for Thompson & Graham. The gold fineness has been verified by XRF test. The locket is hinged at one side and suspended from a rod of gold with fluted finials. The front panel of the locket was originally ‘bloomed’, but much of this high carat gold matte finish has worn away, there is a pleasing halo of bloom surrounding the raised horseshoe motif. The horseshoe is studded with five gems – two half seed pearls and three pink garnet topped doublets imitating rubies. The locket opens smoothly and closes securely. The locket measures 32.36mm (not including the bail) x 19.71mm x 7.26mm. Weighs 4.89 grams. Condition: Excellent antique condition with no faults to note. Ready for immediate wear. **please note the chain pictured is not included, it can be found here.
